Daughter of the Wind, which was written and directed by Interplay's Artistic Director Steve Byrne, was inspired
by the vivid storytelling of ancient Greece, in particular the tales of
Ovid. The story of Alceyone and Ceyx is
essentially a love story in which Alceyone’s husband drowns at sea and the two
of them are united as sorrowing birds.
Using a portable dome-shaped tent as its performance space,
the company uses multimedia technology, live music, theatre and interaction
including smell, taste and touch to stimulate its audience and uncover the
mysteries of Greek mythology. The
elements of water and wind, which are crucial to the show’s success, are
represented through the use of a large pool of water, inspiring interaction
between the actors and the audience members.
